What the official page says
Source: RSMo 407.567 and 407.571, New motor vehicle warranties (Missouri Revisor of Statutes) (read 2026-10-18). This is a summary of the statute text posted on the official site, not legal advice. The exact wording, exclusions and deadlines are in the statute itself, and may have changed.
- The statute text (RSMo 407.567) says that if the manufacturer, through its authorized dealer or agent, cannot conform a new motor vehicle to an applicable express warranty after a reasonable number of attempts, the manufacturer must, at its option, replace it with a comparable new vehicle acceptable to the consumer, or take title and refund the full purchase price including reasonably incurred collateral charges, less a reasonable allowance for the consumer's use.
- The statute text (RSMo 407.571) says a reasonable number of attempts is presumed if, within the express warranty terms or one year after original delivery, whichever expires earlier, the same nonconformity was repaired four or more times by the manufacturer or its agents and still exists, or the new vehicle was out of service by reason of repair for a cumulative total of thirty or more working days since delivery (excluding routine maintenance down time).
- The statute text (RSMo 407.567) says the manufacturer may apply to the Department of Revenue for reimbursement of sales tax, license, registration and title fees it refunds, or may direct the consumer to apply to the department for that refund.
Numbers the page states
| Item | As stated on the official page |
|---|---|
| Repair attempts (presumption) | Four or more for the same nonconformity |
| Days out of service | Thirty or more working days |
| Window | Warranty terms or one year after original delivery, whichever expires earlier |
Counting rules differ (calendar days vs. business days, what counts as a repair attempt). Use the repair log tool to organize dates, then confirm how your state counts.
Not covered or not confirmed in this summary
- This summary uses the statute text only. Definitions, the notice requirements (RSMo 407.565) and the dispute procedure (407.573) were not read.

BBB National Programs, which runs the BBB AUTO LINE dispute program, publishes a state summary: BBB AUTO LINE: Missouri lemon law summary (link checked 2026-10-18). It is published by an industry-linked program, so treat it as a starting point and confirm against the state's own page or statute.
What to do first
- Keep every repair order and receipt. See the records checklist.
- Write down dates and mileage for each repair visit with the repair log tool (nothing is saved or sent).
- Read the federal warranty basics and arbitration pages.
- Consider speaking with a licensed attorney in your state about deadlines. Many have free consultations, but we do not recommend any specific one.
